Culotti Scores Twice in Shutout Over PCC, 3-0; Remain in Third in SCC North

(PASADENA) An amazing stat has emerged by the Mountie Women Soccer team lately.

They are 5-3-3 since mid-September and all five victories have come by way of shutouts, with the latest coming against Pasadena City College, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at Robinson Field in a South Coast Conference North game.

With the victory the Mountie Women remain in third place (2-1-2) with four games remaining in the regular season.

Midfielder Hallie Culotti led the Mounties with two goals, her first multi-goal game in her young college career. The freshman now has six goals on the year.

"Coming off of a solid playing performance against Long Beach City College (1-1 tie), Hailie continued the offensive rainstorm of goals," Mt. SAC women's coach Melinda Bowen said.

Prior to the LBCC game the Mounties scored nine goals in the last two games.

Culotti gave Mt. SAC (6-6-3) a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute of the first half off of a solid through-pass from Mountie captain Mia Trugerro. The Lancers goal keeper mishandled the one on one attempt and Culotti capitalized on the mistake with a slotted ball on the floor for the goal.

Just seconds before the first-half whistle (44th minute) Mountie keeper Britain Chaputa made a big save for the Mounties.

"She (Chaputa) saved the lead for (us) with a last second tip over the crossbar which would have been a sure equalizer," Bowen said.

The shot came from 35 yards outside of the box.

Culotti gave the Mounties a 2-0 lead just two minutes into the second half with a beautiful chip shot from the top of the box (18 yards) over the charging PCC keeper's extended hand.

Sophomore forward Jordan Snowden assisted on the goal with a perfect over-the-top pass from beyond midfield.

Meanwhile Chaputa continued to be flawless for the Mounties preserving the shutout with six saves in the game.

The third goal of the game came in the 61st minute off of a free kick from 35 yards out by standout freshman defender Evette Luna. The goal was the third of the season for Luna.

The Mounties, who have four games remaining in the regular season, travel to L.A. Harbor on Tuesday. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
