Mounties Women's Basketball open up SCC North with victory!

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team is off and running in the South Coast Conference North with a 74-46 win over Chaffey College Wednesday night.  Dominique McLaughlin led the Mounties with 18 points.

McLaughlin, who is averaging 14.2 points per game, was 7 of 16 from the field, which included four 3-pointers. She also had four rebounds and dished out seven assists.

Guard MyJoi Adams (6 of 12 FG, 4 RB, 2 Assts.) also added 13 points for the Mounties, who are ranked sixth in the state.

In addition, the bench came through with a 32-point performance led by guard Deja Siaki's (7 of 12 FG, 2-2 FT, 3 RB, 5 Assts.) 17 points.

Forward Tianna Burrell (4 of 7 FG, 4 RB, 2 Assts.) and guard Imani Cole (2 of 4 FG) added 10 and five bench points respectively for the Mounties.

As a team, Mt. SAC (17-4, 1-0) led in field goal percentage (52.5%), hitting 31 of 59 shots, rebounds (33), assists (23), points off turnovers (27) and points in the paint (30).

After a low-scoring first quarter by both teams for a 10-10 tie, the Mounties almost doubled the Panthers in the second quarter (22-13) for the 32-23 halftime lead.

Siaki and McLaughlin led the Mounties in the first half with 11 and 10 points respectively.

It was more of the same offensive output after the break as the Mounties nearly doubled Chaffey's scoring again with a 42-23 advantage to win by 28 points.

Mt. SAC continues SCC North action on Friday at 5:00 pm, as they host rival East Los Angeles College (13-6, 1-0).
