Mt. SAC Women Basketball Drops a South Coast Conference Crossover Game to Long Beach City College, 58-50

(Walnut, CA) For the third time this season the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team took on Long Beach City College, this time in a nonconference game at the Mountie Gym. After downing the Vikings in a close semifinal win in the Fullerton College Holiday tourney, the Mounties fell 58-50 Friday night in a South Coast Conference crossover game.

Behind a hot first quarter from sophomore guard Dominique McLaughlin with 10 points, the Mounties (14-4) held a five-point lead, 17-12. McLaughlin, who had a game-high 16 points, connected for two 3-pointers, was 2 for 2 at the charity stripe and had two steals in the opening quarter.

Jonnae Vermillion (5 of 11 FG, 1-2 FT) added 11 points in the game and had a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Vikings (12-5) more than doubled the Mounties scoring in the second quarter, 21-10 to take a 33-27 halftime lead.

Mt. SAC sophomore guard Deja Siaki led the Mounties in the second quarter as she scored all of her six points.

After each team scored 12 points in the third quarter, Long Beach remained six points ahead, 45-39 heading into the final quarter.

Freshman guard MyJoi Adams scored seven points and had four rebounds, while freshman guard Tiana Douglas added six points and seven rebounds.

The Mounties closed to within four points, 49-45 on a pair of free throws by Douglas with 3:12 remaining in the game, but the Vikings outscored the Mounties 9-5 down the stretch for the 58-50 victory.

Mt. SAC continues action on the road against Cerritos on Wednesday and El Camino on Friday next week.
