By John M. Sherrard

(Visalia, CA) On Sunday, the Mounties Women's Basketball Team (10-1) defeated host Sequoias College, 69-47, to capture the tournament title at the 40th Annual Gilcrest Tournament on the Visalia campus.

For the second time this season, the Mounties are on a five-game winning streak.

In the championship game against Sequoias (11-2), freshman guard Dominique McLaughlin had the best game of her young college career with a season-high 24 points, highlighted by five 3-pointers, also a career high and the most in one game by any player this season.

McLaughlin scored the bulk of her points in the first (9) and fourth (10) quarters for the Mounties. She was 9 of 15 field goals and 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and brought down ten boards.

Rounding out the Mountie scoring was Maddeline Dopplick (2 threes), who had seven points, followed by four other players with six each.

The Mounties are ranked first in So. Cal, while Sequoias are sixth in the North.

After winning the initial tournament of the year, The Linda G. Smith Tip-Off Tournament, Mt. SAC reeled off five victories en route to the semifinal game of the Ventura College tourney, where they lost to Sierra College.

The Mounties will try to extend the streak to six games, after a well-deserved two-week break. They will head up to the Lancaster area for the Annual Antelope Valley College Holiday Tournament.

Mt. SAC will open the tourney against Glendale College on Friday December 16, at 3:00 pm.
