Mountie Women Defeat PCC, 65-57; Advance To Sequoia College Tourney Championship

(VISALIA) The road-weary Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team, playing their seventh consecutive game away from the Walnut campus, advanced to their second tourney title game with a 65-57 semifinal victory over rival Pasadena City College Saturday night in the College of the Sequoias 40th Annual Gilcrest Tournament.

With a season-opening Mountie Tip-Off championship and now a chance at a second title, Mt. SAC advanced to play host Sequoias Sunday.

The Mounties were led by a pair of 15-point performances by sophomores Kali Jones (9 rebounds) and Aliyah Dickson (9 for 9 FT).

Also in double figures was sophomore guard Maddeline Dopplick with 12 points, which included two three-pointers, six rebounds and a steal.

As a team the Mounties grabbed 32 boards and nine steals and were 23 of 32 at the charity stripe.

With the win the Mounties upped their record to 9-1 and PCC fell to 10-2.

The Lancers stayed close to Mt. SAC in the first quarter, trailing 14-13 and the Mounties led by four at the half, 31-27.

In the third quarter the Mounties went on a 12-5 run to build up the margin over the Lancers to eight points, 48-40.

Highlighting the run was Dickson with six points (4 for 4 FT) and Jones with five.

The Lancers closed the gap to four points and trailed, 58-54, with 2:51 remaining in the fourth quarter.

However, Dopplick scored five of the final seven Mountie points, which included a long-range, three-pointer.

The Mounties took advantage of the 22 PCC turnovers for 19 points and had 21 bench points in the game.
