Late Comeback Fuels Mountie Victory Over Long Beach City College, 67-61, in Ventura Tourney for Third Place.

(VENTURA) With a furious fourth-quarter comeback, the Mt. SAC Women's basketball team came from eight points down and won going away, 67-61, over Long Beach City College in a third-place game in the 19th Annual Ventura College Classic Sunday afternoon.

After losing their first game of the season on Saturday in the semifinals of the tournament, Mt. SAC doubled up on LBCC in the final quarter, 26-13, behind nine points from a pair of Mounties to secure the victory.

Guards Dominique McLaughlin (6 rebounds, 3 steals) and Maddeline Dopplick both scored nine points in the fourth quarter to lead the charge and help improve the Mounties to a 6-1 record.

Dopplick scored a team-high 20 points, connecting on 6 of 11 field goals which included three, 3-pointers.

Sophomore Aliyah Dickson added 17 points, shooting a near-perfect 9 of 10 from the free throw line.

Long Beach built up a 9-point lead at the half, 34-25, before the Mounties began their second-half comeback.

Caira Benton and Kali Jones added eight and seven points respectively for the Mounties in the game. Benton grabbed a game-high ten rebounds (7 offensive), seven steals and a blocked shot.

Mt. SAC, as a team, outrebounded the Vikings, 51-37, and had 18 thefts.

The Mounties will play in their third tournament of the season beginning Thursday, Dec. 1 against Foothill College in the College of the Sequoias Tournament.
