Olvera Pitches No-Hitter Over Rio Hondo

Softball Pitcher Jessica Olvera

(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC pitcher Jessica Olvera threw her first college complete-game no hitter with a six-inning, 8-0, South Coast Conference North win over Rio Hondo on Wednesday.  The win extended the Mt. SAC hot streak to 15 consecutive wins and a record of 16-1 (4-0 conference).

Sophomore Overa (4-1, 1-0, 32 strikeouts) flirted with a perfect game by retiring the first 13 batters, six by strikeouts. Two batters reached first on a walk and an error, but both were erased on double plays.  Olvera faced the minimum 18 batters in six innings, striking out Rio Hondo batters.

"We are very proud of Jessica," replied Mt. SAC Head Coach Ruby Rojas. "She was on fire (Wednesday)."

Last season Mt. SAC started the season with 20 straight wins, amassed 15 shutouts and advanced to the state championship.

This season the Mounties, who are ranked fourth in the state in the latest CCCFCA poll, have recorded three shutouts.

The shortened game ended in the sixth inning after sophomore first baseman Michelle Banales (2-3, R, 3 RBIs, Dbl., Sac) hit a bases-loaded double scoring three runners – Ciara Granado  (1-3, 3 R, SB), Carissa Felix (1-3, 2 R, RBI, HR) and Sasha Allen (1-3, R) for the eight-run rule victory.

Felix, who hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, was recently named the CCCAA State Player of the Week as she was 9 for 12, with six RBIs and four doubles.

On Saturday, the Mounties travel to the College of the Canyons for a double header (game times 12:00 pm and 2:00 p.m).
