(Walnut, CA) With the 'second-season' rapidly approaching, the Mt. SAC Softball team recorded its 13th shutout en route to an 8-0 five-inning victory over visiting Glendale College Friday afternoon.

The Mounties, ranked third in the state, are among the top teams in the state for blanking their opponents this season.

Sophomore pitcher Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings (12-1) pitched the first three innings with six strikeouts and freshman Sarah Wapner went the final two.

"This year we have a lot of returning sophomores and know what it will take and we're more than ready," said Kennedy-Cummings, who retains the top ERA in the state at 0.89.

The Mounties improved to 33-3 overall. They will play their final two regular season games on Tuesday at Chaffey and on Wednesday will host College of the Canyons on sophomore day.

"I think the girls are peaking at the right time," Mt. SAC Softball coach Ruby Rojas said. "Hitting is like a roller coaster. It's going to go up and down the entire season, but what has to be consistent is the defense.

"I'm a huge believer that defense wins championships."

The Mounties were perfect on the day defensively with no miscues.

Leading the way offensively for Mt. SAC was sophomore right fielder Alyssa Rasso with a perfect 3 for 3 day, a double and two runs scored.

Four other Mounties (Aleyah Wilbon, Mandy Larios, Toni Mendoza and Bree Maikai) collected two hits apiece.

Highlighting the game was a pair of triples by Maikai. Leading 4-0 in the third, Maikai hit a triple, scoring Rasso. Maikai came home on a sacrifice by freshman Carissa Felix for the, 6-0 lead.

Another two-run, three-bagger by Maikai in the fourth drove home Rasso again and Toni Mendoza for the final two runs.
