No. 21 Softball’s Celina Felix earns multiple weekly honors

Junior third baseman batted .467 with four HR’s and nine RBIs during the Houston Hilton Plaza Invite

AUSTIN, Texas – Following an outstanding weekend's effort at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational, Texas junior third baseman Celina Felix has been selected as both the Big 12 Conference's Co-Player of the Week and CollegeSportsMadness.com's Big 12 Player of the Week for February 23.

The Montclair, Calif., native was a true power threat for the Longhorns at the plate in Houston over Feb. 19-21, batting .467 overall (7-for-15) with seven runs scored, four HR's, nine RBIs and 19 total bases, while slugging 1.267 and posting a staggering OPS of 1.823. She hit safely in all five contests during the weekend, improving her hitting streak to eight games and her reached base streak to cover all 10 match-ups to begin her career on the Forty Acres. Felix also blasted a HR in four-straight games, tying former Longhorns great Lexy Bennett for the second-longest consecutive-game HR streak in Texas program history.

After hitting a solo shot during the 17-2 (5 inn.) Friday win over Toledo, Felix hit three-run HR's during each of a pair of victories over Ball State (13-2 in 5 inn. & 8-0 in 5 inn.) before closing out the power show on a two-run blast in a 6-3 victory over Toledo.

She currently leads Texas this season in batting average (.448), hits (13), HR's (four), RBIs (12) and slugging percentage (.931).
