Cross Country on a Roll! Men Win Third Straight Championship at Golden West Cross Country Invitational

By John M. Sherrard

(Huntington Beach) For the third straight week the Mt. SAC Men's Cross Country team has come home with a championship adding the Golden West Invitational to its trophy case!

Previous championships over the past two weeks were at the So Cal Preview Meet in Santa Clarita and the Fresno Invitational.

"The men continued their win streak," Mt. SAC coach Daniel Ozan said. "It was a great team effort overall but we still have plenty of work left to do."

The latest was a 16-point victory over second place Glendale College in the Golden West Invitational at Huntington Beach.

Fifteen schools competed in the four-mile event and the Mounties were led by five runners finishing in the top twenty positions.

Leading the pack was sophomore Noel Echeverria with a third place finish in a time of 22:27, just 39 seconds behind the winner. Echeverria averaged 5:36 per mile in the race.

Five additional Mounties placed in the top 20. Sophomore Manuel Fernandez was sixth with a time of 22:36; freshman Misael Millan, 12th (22:47); sophomore Adam Preston, 14th (22:50); sophomore Cody Salter, 15th (22:52) and freshman Luis Huerta, 20th (22:56).

The Mounties will take their show on the road to Oregon this Saturday, September 30th and compete in the Willamette Invitational at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Oregon.
