Water Polo Continues Hot Scoring Streak; Wins twice in Citrus Tournament

(WALNUT) By John M. Sherrard – The Mt. San Antonio College Men's water polo team continued its hot scoring streak in the Citrus tournament Friday with another two big wins.

In the early game, the Mounties defeated San Diego Miramar, 27-7, and in the second game downed Fullerton, 17-6.

In the Miramar win the Mounties scored six goals in the first quarter, five in the second and then exploded for ten in the third.

Leading the way was sophomore utility man Jeffrey Silverberg (Walnut HS) with a game-high six goals, while sophomore center Thomas Randles (Claremont HS) and freshman attacker Alec Rivera (Chino Hills HS) contributed with four each.

Silverberg and Randles got the 3-0 Mounties off to the fast start with three and two goals respectively in the first quarter.

Hans Masten (Claremont HS) scored three for Mt. SAC in the game and Adrian Hernandez (Nogales HS), Mike Meza (Chino HS), and Nicholas Perez (Upland HS) added two each.

Randles and Masten were members of the Claremont CIF champion in 2015.

In the afternoon game against Fullerton College, were led by utility man Scott McDill (Walnut HS, Air Force Academy) with five goals. The sophomore has now amassed 13 goals in his first two games of the season.

Silverberg also continued his early-season hot streak with four goals, while Rivera, Hernandez and freshman utility man Roman Aceres (Centennial HS, Beaumont) had two apiece.

The Mounties continue Saturday with two more games in the tournament playing Grossmont and Cal Tech.

They will continue conference play next Wednesday at Mt. SAC against Rio Hondo in a 4:15 pm game.
