Men's Track & Field Captures 4th Consecutive South Coast Conference Championship

(Torrance, CA)  The Mt. SAC Men's Track & Field Team continued their longstanding domination of the South Coast Conference (SCC), capturing their 4th consecutive SCC Title and 18th in the past 20 years.  The Mounties scored, in what is believed to be a new record, a total of 431 points, which was more points than rest of the entire field and 222 points over runner-up, Cerritos College (164).  Mt. SAC had individual champions in 12 of the 19 events and captured both relays.

"It was an outstanding team effort that was executed with championship form,"  replied Mounties Head Men's Coach, Ron Kamaka.  "Thee very strong effort in all event areas helps prepare us for a competitive regional prelim next week at Cerritos College."

The two most outstanding team performances on the men's side were in the 100 meters (36 points) and in the pole vault (35 points), where the team swept the top 6 and top 5 places in those respective events.  Incredibly the men scored more than 20 points, in 12 individual events and more than 30, in 5 individual events.

Conference championship Running Athlete of the Meet Honors went to sprinter Gaston Bouchereau, who captured the 100 meters, was 5th in the 200 meters and was a member of the winning 4X100 meter relay team.

The Track & Field Program will next compete at the CCCAA Southern California Track & Field Preliminaries and Finals, which will be held on May 6th and 13th at Cerritos College.
