Mounties Shine at 2017 USA Track and Field Championships

(Sacramento, CA) Three current and one former member of the Mt. SAC Track and Field Team shined brightly at the 2017 USA Track and Field (USATF) National Championships.  Despite blazing temperatures, the Mounties came away with some impressive performances at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California.

Freshman Jasher Foster (St. Francis High School) took 4th place overall in the Junior Men's 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 13.82.  Foster ran a personal best time of 13.75 in the Semi-Finals, which was held earlier in the day.

Freshman Brandon McLaurin (Bonita High School) placed 8th overall in the Junior Men's Triple Jump with a jump of 47'08"1/2 (14.54M), on his fifth attempt.  McLaurin was able to regroup and qualify for the finals on his third attempt, after scratching his first two attempts.  

Freshman Asa Martin (Great Oak High School) qualified for the championships and made three valiant attempts in the Junior Men's Pole Vault, but failed to make the opening height of 16'04"1/2 (5.00M).

Former Mountie sprint sensation, Kyree King, representing the University of Oregon, competed in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the national championships (Senior/Open Division).  In the 200 meters, King ran 20.68 in the first round and 20.64 in the semi-final to qualify for the finals, where he ran 20.40 to finish fourth.  The PAC 12 Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year and NCAA Division 1 All-American also qualified for the semi-finals in the 100 meters running a 10.19 in the first round and 10.22 in the semi-final.  

The USATF Junior National Championships annually crowns our nations Junior (19 years and under) Champion in each event.  This years championships served as the selection meet (top 2 finishers) for the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships which will be held in Trujillo, Peru.

The USATF National Championships crowns our national champion in each event and serves as the selection meet for our national team.  This years team (top 3 in each event with qualifying marks) will represent the US at the 2017 IAAF World Championships, to be held in London, England.
