(Lancaster, CA)  The Mt. SAC Mountie Track and Field Program moved one step closer to the state championships by qualifying for 75 individual events and four relays (16 athletes) into the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California (SoCal) Track and Field Championship Finals, which will be held this Saturday, May 14th at Antelope Valley College (Lancaster, CA).

This past Saturday (May 7th), at the CCCAA SoCal Preliminaries, the Mounties exhibited why they are the men's team favorites for this Saturday's finals.  The team dominated the 100 and 200 meters, taking an amazing six out of the nine available lanes in eacn race.  Both races were won by state leader and South Coast Conference Athlete of the Year, Cravon Gillespie, who cruised 10.57 in the 100m and 21.40 in the 200m to easily advance. Gillespie, who usually anchors the 4x100m Relay Team, gave way to freshman Frank Mccomb, as the team ran a 41.86.

On the women's side, the sprints were also the big key to success, with the women taking 9 of the 27 spots available in the 100, 200 and 400 meters.
