(Torrance, CA) The Mt. SAC Track and Field Program earned 18 All-South Coast Conference (SCC) Honors including SCC Conference Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach, Ron Kamaka who led the Mountie Men to the 2016 SCC Championship. Assistant Coach John Bolton was named SCC Assistant Coach of the Year for the magical work he has done this season with the speedy Mt. SAC Sprinters.
Athlete of the year honors went to sprint sensation, Crayvon Gillespie for the running events and Joey Bryant for the field events. Gillespie is the state leader in the 100M and 200M, as well as a member of the Mt. SAC 4X100M and 4X400M relay squads. Bryant is the state leader in the high jump (6’11”3/4) and long jump (25’06”1/4). The versatile defensive back in football is also ranked fifth in the state in the triple jump, at 48’02”3/4.
Athlete of the meet (SCC Championship) honors went to Cameron Akins and Crystal Jardines. Akins had a very productive day winning three individual events, the 100M, 200M, 110M hurdles and was a member of the winning 4X100M relay. Distance specialist, Jardines captured the women’s 5,000 and 10,000 meter races.
