Mt. SAC Men Advance to Compton Tourney Consolation Championship with 66-60 Win over L.A. Pierce

(Compton, CA) Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team, led by 20 points from forward Minfeke Sanoe, defeated L.A. Pierce College 66-60 in game two of the tournament.

Minfeke was 7 for 12 from the field, 6 of 9 from the free throw line and had a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Mounties (6-9) will play West L.A. College (10-4), an 81-79 overtime winner over host Compton, on Wednesday in the consolation championship game of the Compton Tartar Classic.

Guards Marc Howard Jr. (4-4 FT, 7 rebounds, 2 steals) and Michael Ridley (2-3 FG, 5 rebounds, 1 steal.) scored 11 and 10 points respectively for the Mounties.

The Mounties trailed midway through the first half, 12-10, but finished the half by outscoring L.A. Pierce 19-12, led by 3-pointers from Howard, Jr. and Darrell Williams (5 points).

Minfeke and Ridley had seven and six points respectively for the Mounties in the half and led 29-24.

In the second half, the Mounties led by seven points at the 6:53 mark after a jump shot by Howard, Jr. and built up their largest lead of nine points late in the game.

Ridley, who was 6 of 10 from the charity stripe, sank two free throws with 4:02 remaining in the game for a 62-53 lead.

Minfeke led the Mounties with 13 second-half points followed by Howard, Jr., guards Corey Grant and Josiah Yarde with six each.

The Mounties will take a holiday break and then return in the New Year to host El Camino College in a South Coast Conference crossover game on Wednesday January 10.
