(WALNUT) On the opening night of the Annual Mountie Basketball Classic, host Mt. SAC defeated Middlebrook College, 92-73, Friday night with a big second half surge.
With a close first half, leading by a point, 37-36, the Mounties outscored Middlebrook in the second half by 18 points and raised their record to 7-4 on the season.
The Mounties had six players score in double figures.
Mt. SAC was led by sophomore guard Charlie Evans IV (3 for 3 FT, 4 RB) with 12 points, while two players had 11 each – freshman guard Josh Johnson (4 for 6 FG, 3-4 FT) and sophomore F/G Isaiah Watson (5 for 9 FG, 1 steal).
Three players had ten points each – sophomore guard Ryon O'Quinn (4 for 7 FG, 3 steals), sophomore F/C Damarcus Carter (5 for 7 FG, 2 steals, 4 RB) and freshman guard Andrew Hill (4 for 8 FG, 2-2 FT, 3 RB).
Defensively for the Mounties Johnson had eight rebounds (6 defensive) and O'Quinn had seven (5 defensive). As a team the Mounties doubled the amount of boards, 46-23.
