(Walnut, CA)  It is with deep regret that the Mt. SAC Athletics Department announces the passing passing of former student-athlete, James Martin. Martin passed away suddenly from a heart attack on January 4th, 2017.

Martin, out of Ayala High School, was a true student-athlete who excelled in the classroom and on the football field, where he was an offensive lineman.  He was part of the 2009 and 2010 Mt. SAC Football Teams that captured both state and national championships.

In Mt. SAC Classrooms, Martin maintained a 3.8 G.P.A., was named a Mt. SAC Student of Distinction (2011) and the Scholar Athlete of the Year.

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of an oustanding individual who was a model Mt. SAC Student-Athlete and a member of the Mt. SAC Athletics Family," replied Head Football Coach, Bob Jastrab.  "While at Mt. SAC, James was an intregal part of our program.  He left an incredible legacy that will always be remembered."

Martin, along with teammates Mike Edwards (WR) and Nick Lamaison (QB), transferred to the  University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where they continued their success with the Miners.  He also continued his success in the classroom at UTEP, and was named to the 2012 Conference USA Commissioners Honor Roll (Minimum 3.0 G.P.A.).
