(Walnut, CA) The Mounties Football Program captured an emotional win over rival Riverside City College, 20-17, at Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium. The game was preceded, by a special ceremony that honored the memories of both Long Snapper, George Steward and his girlfriend Sabrina Castillo who were involved in a tragic vehicular accident this past week.  With both families in attendance, the Mounties were able to emotionally lift themselves out of a deficit and win the game in their honor.

In a fitting tribute, the Mt. SAC Special Teams, of which Steward was part of, was the first to score with a 48 yard field goal by Brandon Gracia to start the 2nd quarter.  Five minutes later, Gracia would follow that up with a 49 yarder, to increase the Mountie lead to six.

After holding the Tigers on the next possession to a quick "4 and out," the Mounties drove the ball 48 yards on 6 plays, to the one yard line.  On the next play, backup quarterback, Jerry McConico scored on a quarterback keeper to increase the Mountie lead by 13 (13-0), with with 4:32 left in the half.

In the second half, Riverside roared back scoring twice in the third quarter and kicked another field goal early in the 4th, to take a 17-13 lead.

With 7 minutes remaining in the game and the ball on the Mt SAC 27 yardline, Anfernee Bruton (QB), lead the Mounties on the game winning drive, with a 48 yard pass to receiver Montero Dubose. Bruton then rushed for 14 yards to the RCC 2 yard line.  Two plays later, McConico takes another 4 yard quarterback keeper for the game winning touchdown, with 5:15 left in the game and a 20-17 lead.

Riverside responds by charging downfield to the Mountie 47 yard line, however on 1st and 10, defensive back Khalil Rashaad-Brown intercepts the ball on the Mountie 27 yardline which closed the door on the Tigers.  The victory gives the Mounties their 5th win and keeps their play-off hopes alive.

The Mounties improve to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference.  Mt. SAC will travel to L.A. Harbor College this Saturday, for a 6:00 pm game.
