(Walnut, CA)  The Mt. SAC Football Team (2-3) nearly defeated #2 ranked Long Beach City College (5-0), but was dealt another double overtime loss this past Saturday, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.  Although Mt. SAC led the visiting Vikings, 31-17, with 9:30 left to play in the 4th quarter, the team was stunned by a few substantial and controversial penalties that were the catalyst for three late Long Beach touchdowns and a surprising, 31-38, double overtime win for the Vikings.

"This team has shown a tremendous amount of heart this season,” replied Head Coach Bob Jastrab.  “Everyone continues to work hard and improve each day.  I am confident that our team will finish the season strong."

The Mounties under Coach Jastrab’s leadership (11th season, 106-23) is in uncharted territory this season.  The only other time the team has lost 3 games in the first half of the season was during Jastrab’s first year as Head Coach in 2005, when the Mounties went 5-5.  Since taking over the program, Jastrab has amassed an incredible record of 106 wins and 23 losses (winning percentage of .882).  Along the way he has captured 9 bowl games, 7 Southern California Championships, 3 CCCAA State Championships, 2 National Championships and became the first California Community College Head Coach to win 100 games in less than 10 seasons.

The Mounties will travel this coming Saturday (Oct. 10), to Grossmont College (2-3), for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
