Mt. SAC Baseball Hosts Glendale College in First CCCAA Super Regional since 2013

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Baseball Team is hoping to advance further than the 2013 team, which was the last Mounties team to come within one win of the CCCAA state playoffs.

With a two-game sweep and an offensive explosion of 22 runs on 24 hits against Santa Barbara last weekend, the No. 4 seed Mounties will host No. 5 seed Glendale College on Friday May 11 in a best of three series.

Glendale (30-13) defeated No. 12 seed Pasadena City College two games to one.

Game one is slated for a 2:00 pm start with game two following Saturday at Noon. The "If necessary" game will be played on Sunday, time to be announced.

The winner of the Super Regional will advance to the CCCAA Southern California Sectional Championship next weekend.

"We are really excited about the upcoming opportunity to host a playoff series versus Glendale," said Coach John Knott, who was South Coast Conference Coach of the Year. "We know how difficult and talented Glendale is but we are excited."

Mt. SAC, which won its only two state titles in 1964-65, is led by freshman right fielder Elijah Greene (78 for 178, 7 HR, 14 Dbls., 5 Tpls., .438 avg.). His 78 hits and .438 average rank him first and second statewide, respectively this season.

Greene had an amazing 13, three-hit games this season, which included 25 mulit-hit games.

Greene was named South Coast Conference MVP, along with Jacob Kampen (5-0 in the SCC, 1.62 ERA) and sophomore right hander Mason Corneliussen (All-SCC first team), who is fourth in the state with 11 wins overall.

Anthony Walters (All-SCC first team), has a .383 average overall and 10 home runs, 18 doubles and has 59 hits.

Additionally, sophomore Ryon Knowles (50 for 143, 26 RBIs, 11 Dbls.) and freshman Michael Sandoval (48 for 155, 35 RBIs) are averaging .350 and .310 respectively for the Mounties.
