Mt. SAC Baseball Takes Two-Game Lead in SCC with 13-3 Win over Chaffey

(Walnut, CA) With the fifth series win for the Mt. SAC Baseball Team this season, the Mounties remained two games up on East L.A. with a 13-3 win over Chaffey College in the South Coast Conference North Saturday April 7.

Mt. SAC, ranked fifth in the latest CCCAA state poll, scored 29 runs in the three-game series against the Panthers, winning the first and third games.

Chaffey slipped to third in conference as Mt. SAC (23-9) improved to 11-3 in conference.

The Mounties were led by first baseman Ray Mata-Lemos (4 for 5, 3 R, HR, Dbl., 2 RBIs), followed by designated hitter Brandon Bradshaw (3 for 5, R, 2 Dbls., 3 RBIs) and second baseman Ryon Knowles (3 for 4, 2 R, 4 RBIs, 2 SB).

Mounties pitcher Jacob Kampen (4-1) went six innings, allowing only two runs and struck out four batters.

Mt. SAC scored two runs in the first and third innings, but exploded for eight runs over the next two innings for a commanding 12-0 lead.

Leading 2-0 in the third, Mata-Lemos connected with his first triple of the season, a 2-run blast scoring Knowles.

Knowles highlighted the next inning with a two-run single, scoring shortstop Elijah Zaragoza (1 for 4, 2 R) and catcher Justin McHale (RBI, Sac Fly) for the 6-0 lead.

The Mounties scored five runs on six hits in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Knowles.

Mt. SAC will play a home-and-home SCC North, two-game series against Compton, beginning Tuesday April 10 on the road and Thursday back at the Maz.
