Mt. SAC Baseball Scores Early and Often in 15-4 Win over Mt. San Jacinto

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC bats exploded for 16 hits in route to a 15-4 nonconference win over Mt. San Jacinto College Thursday night at Mazmanian Field.

Five Mounties collected multiple hits, including first baseman Dino Miranda (3 for 4, R, RBI) and second baseman Elijah Zaragoza (3 for 6, 2 R, RBI) with three hits each to lead the charge.

Picking up his first college victory was starter Jacob Kampen (1-0) as Mt. SAC improved to 3-1 on the young season.

"It was nerve-wracking in the beginning," Kampen said. "But once you get going, all the nerves go away and just do what you've been doing since the beginning."

The Mountie bats have exploded for 37 hits and scored 34 runs in their first four games.

"These guys are great," said Kampen of the lineup. "They can put up runs like there's no tomorrow."

With the Mounties leading 5-0 in the fifth inning, the big hit of the game came off the bat of designated hitter Dylan Jones (1 for 3, 3 RBIs) when he just missed a grand slam off the right-center field fence, clearing the bases with a triple.

Scoring on Jones' three-bagger was Michael Sandoval (2 R, 3 BB), Miranda and left fielder Elijah Greene (2 for 3, R, 2 RBIs) to give the Mounties a 10-0 lead.

Collecting two hits in the game was center fielder Manny Galvan (2 for 4, R, RBI) and shortstop Anthony Walters (2 for 4, 3 R, 2 RBI).

Mt. SAC travels to San Diego Mesa College for a double header on Saturday with games at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
