A Valentine’s Day Gift!!! Ninth-Inning Errors Give Mountie Baseball Walk-off Win over Riverside City College, 4-3

By John M. Sherrard

(Walnut, CA) A sweet gift of two runs was handed to the Mt. SAC Baseball team on a Valentine's Day in a non-conference game at Mazmanian Field Tuesday night. With the Mounties trailing, 3-1, entering the ninth inning, three runs came across (two by errors) for the 4-3 win over Riverside City College. With the victory the Mounties evened their record at 4-4.

Mt. SAC Freshman, Brandon Bradshaw (2 for 5, RBI) and sophomore designated hitter Tyrus Lineberger (2 for 3, BB) each had two hits in the game. Bradshaw singled in the tying run in the ninth for the Mounties.

With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth, the Tigers scored twice to take a 3-1 lead.

Freshman, Jacob Castillo picked up his first win with a one-inning relief appearance in the ninth inning.

Mt. SAC sophomore Josh Avila started the game and went six innings, scattering five hits, allowing a solo run and struck out a season-high 12 batters.

The Mounties will next finish a game that was suspended in the 8th inning back on February 3rd against Mt. San Jacinto College, where they were leading 10-8 on Thursday at 6:00 pm.  After the completion of the contest, they will start the schedule game.
