(Walnut, Ca.) A wild opening day between San Diego Mesa and Mt. SAC on the baseball diamond Saturday took place, as the two teams combined for 44 runs and 47 hits that led to double header split at Mazmanian Field in nonconference action.

The Mounties lost the opener in ten innings, 8-7, but broke a 12-12 tie late in the second game, scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth to win, 17-12.

Freshman right fielder Brandon Bradshaw led the way offensively for the Mounties with five hits, while three other players had three hits in the two games.

In game one of the twin bill, Bradshaw led the Mounties going 3 for 4 and sophomore left fielder Anthony Muniz collected two hits, including a stolen base.

Trailing 7-5 heading in to the bottom of the ninth Mt. SAC rallied for two runs to tie the game at 7-7, as sophomore first baseman Tyrus Lineberger lined a two-out double to tie the game.

However, Mesa came through with a run in the tenth to come away with the extra-inning win.

In game two sophomore second baseman Erick Morales led the Mounties going 3 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Bradshaw and freshman third baseman Conner Shepherd each had two hits for Mt. SAC.

With a huge 12-2 lead heading into the eighth inning, SD Mesa climbed all the way back to tie the game at 12-12.

But the Mounties answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning after there were two outs.

Three of the runs were unearned on a throwing error (freshman Jeff Pellegrino scored), wild pitch (freshman Daniel Ramirez scoring) and a passed ball, scoring freshman Alex Gonzalez to lead, 15-12.

Sophomore right fielder Hayden Wright then hit a two-run single, scoring freshman Andre Riveroy and freshman centerfielder Quinn Cotter to take a 17-12 lead.

Sophomore right hander Josh Avila picked up the victory, pitching the final 1 1/3 Innings.
