Mounties fall to LBCC, 4-2

(Walnut) – By John M. Sherrard – For the second game in a row against Long Beach City College, the Mounties fell behind early and late-inning rallies fell short, this time a 4-2 loss to the Vikings in a South Coast Conference game Saturday afternoon at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

Trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning, Mt. SAC scored a run on a double steal of second base and home. Freshman left fielder Jimmy Frazier (West Covina HS) stole second, while sophomore right fielder D. J. Daniels (Bishop Amat HS) stole home for their first run of the game.

After the Vikings added another run in the eighth, for a 4-1 lead, Mt. SAC added a run in the ninth inning, but fell short again to the conference-leading Vikings.

After Frazier (1 for 3, run) walked, he eventually came home for the second Mountie run on a single up the middle by sophomore second baseman Dallas Reed (Vista Murrieta HS).

Mt. SAC sophomore pitcher Daniel Diaz (Ayala HS) suffered the defeat.

Reed and sophomore catcher Johnny Juarez (Glendora HS) both were 2 for 5 in the game for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC will take on El Camino College on Tuesday in a SCC contest.
