(Hermosa Beach, CA) The inaugural season for the Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball Team ended on a winning note in South Coast Conference dual action on Friday April 13.

With the conference tournament next up for the Mounties, they returned the favor and defeated Rio Hondo 3-2 at Hermosa Beach.

The Roadrunners handed the Mounties a loss by the same 3-2 score in the first round of play in March.

"The No. 5 team of Kierra Coatney and Brianda Valdez pulled out another strong win against Rio (Hondo) and handled business against PCC's club team at the 4's," Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball coach Ali Carey-Oliver said.

Coatney/Valdez swept the Rio pair 21-17, 21-15 for the win.

The second pair to record a win was the 3's, Lauren Quinonez and Alysha Tullar, in a second Mountie sweep, 21-13, 21-17.

"They got some payback against Rio Hondo after losing to them in the first round," Carey-Oliver said.

Quinonez sustained an injury during the match that prevented her from playing at her peak.

The third pair to win for the second time against the Roadrunners this season was the 2's, Sierra Lujan and Jordon Wilson, for a three-set marathon win, 12-21, 29-27, 15-11.

The No. 1's, Malia Carr and Shaiann Palos fell to Rio, 15-21, 21-6, 15-12 and the No. 4's, Alyssa Bloomfield and Ashly Velazquez lost by identical scores of 21-16, 21-16.
