In their first meeting of the season, the Cerritos College softball team was unable to duplicate the success they have had over Mt. San Antonio College in recent years. The Falcons, who have won four of the last five South Coast Conference championships, were defeated by the Mounties, 8-0 in a five-inning conference game on Thursday. The loss dropped Cerritos to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They will now host Fullerton College on Saturday at noon in a game that was rescheduled due to rain earlier in the season.

Against Mt. SAC, sophomore starting pitcher Lily Cornejo (Paramount HS) was pulled after three batters, which included a two-run home run against Vanessa Bracamonte, which put the Falcons behind, 2-0 early on. The Mounties went on to score five runs against sophomore relief pitcher Kayla Klein (La Habra HS/Texas A&M University) over the next 1 2/3 innings, with freshman Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) pitching the final two innings.

There wasn't much in the way of offense for Cerritos, as they collected just two hits and drew one walk against winning pitcher Emily Seidel. In the top of the fourth inning, freshman Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) led off with a base hit and pinch-hitter Regina Ayala (Santa Fe HS/University of Louisiana at Monroe) followed with a walk. But neither runners were able to advance, as Seidel struck out the next two batters and finished with seven on the day.
