FOOTBALL: HORNETS SHELLED IN SOCAL BOWL

The Fullerton College football team suffered through an agonizing defeat at home on Saturday as Mt. San Antonio College trounced the Hornets 44-14 in the Southern California Bowl. 

It was a semi-final game where the winner goes to the Southern California Football Association's Championship game. Mt. SAC will now play the winner of the Ventura and Riverside game.

The loss ends the Hornets' stellar season where they won the Southern Conference going an undefeated 6-0. It was Fullerton's first home loss at Nathan Shapell Stadium.

The Hornets began the game on the wrong foot as they seemingly forced the Mounties into a three and out in their first series, until the punter was clipped giving Mt. SAC the ball and new life at mid-field. From there, the Monuties scored the game's first touchdown six plays later on a 30-yard pass from Justin Alo to Christophe Gilchrist.

The Mounties hit a 29-yard field goal by Alberto Villareal with 5:20 left in the first quarter.

Fullerton matched their field goal with a 34-yard shot from Casey Eyman at 14:55 in the second quarter.

With the Hornets down by seven, the Mt. SAC widened their lead scoring thirteen unanswered points by the end of the first half.

It did not get any better heading into the second half for the Hornets. On the first play of the half, FC quaterback Joey Verhaegh fumbled the ball after taking a vicious hit. The ball was scooped up by Mt. SAC's Suliasi Tamaivena and he ran the ball 25-yards in for a touchdown.

FC's Eyman knocked in a 45-yard field goal making the scoreboard read 30-6.

The Mounties further seperated themselves scoring two more touchdowns, a 14-yard run by Omaris Tolbert and a 11-yard run by Tony Gates.

Hornet running back Oran Maxwell managed to score a late 1-yard TD with 2:53 left in the game. It would be the last score of the game.
