For the first time since 2006, the Cerritos College women's water polo team will not be part of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons (14-17) finished in fourth place at the South Coast Conference Tournament after a 12-5 loss to Chaffey College on Saturday at Pasadena City College in the third place game. The team opened the conference tournament with a 15-4 win over Rio Hondo College, but then dropped a 10-7 match to eventual conference champion Mt. San Antonio College before their setback against the Panthers.

Cerritos vs. Rio Hondo: It was an early 7-1 first quarter lead that jump-started the tournament for the Falcons. They turned that into a 10-2 lead at halftime and never looked back. The duo of sophomores Catie Tuning (Los Altos HS/University of LaVerne) and Teresa Zuniga (California HS) each scored four times for Cerritos, while Zuniga also paced the defense with six steals. As a team, the Falcons posted 19 steals, with the tandem of freshman Ashley Padilla (California HS) and Kaitlyn Mendez (Cerritos HS) each contributed four, while Mendez also scored three goals.

Cerritos vs. Mt. San Antonio: It was the 6-on-5 advantages that determined the winner of this game, as the Mounties converted five of six, while the Falcons were only successful on one of their seven chances. Cerritos was able to stay close the entire game, and had several chances to take a lead with man advantages, but squandered them. Tuning was the team's offensive threat with five goals, with Zuniga recording five steals. Freshman goalkeeper Catherine Borunda (El Rancho HS) finished with seven saves and one steal, with sophomore Bianca Serrano (Cerritos HS) contributing three steals.

Cerritos vs. Chaffey: Borunda did her best to keep the Panthers out of the net, as she made 12 saves, but couldn't hold them off enough for the Falcons to contend in the game. After a close fist half, where Chaffey led 5-3, Cerritos struggled the score in the second half and dropped the match. Tuning posted three goals and added a pair of steals, while Serrano and freshman Claudia Martinez (Roosevelt HS) all had a pair of steals.

In her one season with the Falcons, Tuning scored 94 goals, which is the third most in school history, with the record being 106 goals scored by Berlyn Sanchez in 2005. That goal total is also the ninth most in career goals, as Tuning will now go on to play her junior year at the University of LaVerne in the spring. Her 38 assists also rank as the fourth most in a season. As for Zuniga, she posted the fourth most steals in a season (82), while her 45 goals are tied for the 23rd most in a season. In goal, Borunda posted 218 saves on the year which is the fourth most in a season in school history.
