Shane Poulter is the full-time Athletics Academic Counselor and has been part of the Mt. SAC Family since 1997, serving as an Educational Advisor and in 2007,was hired in his current role.
As an Educational Advisor, Poulter was awarded “Educator of Distinction” for six consecutive years. Before arriving at Mt. SAC he served as a teacher in the Rowland Unified School District for two years.
He enjoys the challenges of his position and the unique privilege and opportunity to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences.
He currently serves as the Vice President of the California Community College Counselors/Advisors Academic Association for Athletics.
Poulter received his A.A. Degree from Mt. SAC, Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science from Cal Poly Pomona and Masters Degree from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
He currently resides in Chino Hills with his beautiful wife, Yolie and their two daughters, Tessa and Sienna. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family at the beach, attending church, playing golf and attending Mt. SAC Athletic Games.
Valerie is a former Mountie Softball player, and is currently a part-time Counselor working with student-athletes. Valerie transferred to California State University, Dominguez Hills where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. She subsequently earned her Master's Degree in Guidance & Counseling from Loyola Marymount University, and has since been a part-time Counselor at Mt. SAC and various other Community Colleges.
She is excited to be back and contributing to the academic and transfer success of our student athletes. She enjoys working with various types of student-athletes, and helping contribute to both their athletic and academic accomplishments.
She currently resides in La Crescenta with her family. On weekends you can find her hiking, hanging out at the beach or taking in a Dodgers game with her daughter Leilani.
